Judge Steedle was born in Riverton, New Jersey in 1889. He was admitted to the bar of New Jersey in 1914 after obtaining his law degree from Temple University.
He first started practice in the office of John C. Bell, Attorney General of Pennsylvania. As a Referee in Bankruptcy, he decided thousands of cases during the Depression. One of his most famous cases involved William Fox, the motion picture magnate. He cited Mrs. Fox for contempt when she failed to give testimony concerning her husbands transfer of 7 million dollars in assets to her name.
